Should students stay on your insurance when they are away to college?

Students who are away at school with or without a car still need to be on your car insurance policy.
Tips to remember:
As the fall semester begins for many colleges and universities, a question we often receive is how to handle household drivers when they are away at school. Here are some key points to remember to ensure that you and your student are properly insured.
For students who have a vehicle with them at school:
The student/driver should be listed as a rated driver on the policy
The policy must be updated with the alternate garaging address associated with the vehicle
For students who do not have a vehicle with them at school:
The student/driver should be listed as a rated driver on the policy. This provides the student with continuous auto insurance in the event that the student is involved in an auto accident at school and insures the student when driving the household vehicles while home visiting or on school break
The student/driver should not be listed as a non-driver or an excluded driver if they are away at school and have a valid driver's license
Your student may qualify for a Student Away at School without a car discount.
